SaiRung Foundation’s activities are totally based upon voluntary service by its members and supporters.
SaiRung Foundation is a non-religious, non-partisan organisation, which does not engage in discrimination on the basis of race, religion, political belief, gender or cultural background.
2) SAIRUNG FOUNDATION’S OBJECTIVES
To provide educational scholarships, developmental assistance, and medical care, for the neediest people living in the areas where the N.G.O. is active
“People 4 People” is based upon the idea of involving the potential beneficiaries of our help in the working process and making them part of a wider and common project.SaiRung has no salaried staff but can count on a popular base of volunteers (all living in the village where the organisation is active) that are always ready to notify the people in charge of special and deserving cases.
“People 4 People” aims to become a helping centre where there will be no difference between “those who give and those who receive” but where there will only be the common goal: to help those who suffer and need a hand.
3) GENERAL CONTEXT
The project is located in North Eastern Thailand (Isaan), the poorest region of the country where farming is the main activity.
4) PROJECT’S LOCATION
Rural villages of Surin’s province
The majority of the children that we care for have been orphaned or abandoned by their parents.
The economic situation of Isaan’s farmers is extremely difficult. As a result, many of them are leaving the countryside to move to Bangkok in the (vain) hope of a better life. Unfortunately, the children are very often left behind in their villages where they live with their elderly grandparents or other relatives, in sheer poverty, lacking good hygiene, and without parental guidance.
Moreover, young people also leave the villages to move to the big cities. They are uneducated and have no employment experience. They soon face no other choice than cheap labour, life at the margin of society in criminal gangs, or in the sex trade.
5) BENEFICIARIES
We will start with a program meant to help about 50 children in the following categories:
Children whose parents died from HIV/Aids
Children whose parents are separated
Children with parents who are very poor
Children living with grandparents who are very poor
Therefore, we intend to assist children who live with their extremely poor families, as well as those in extreme cases (such as children who are sick and have been left behind). We are planning the implementation of a “Shelter” program. We are planning to provide shelters by renting a few houses rather than constructing an expensive facility. This is in order not to burden our limited budget.
6) INCOME GENERATING PROGRAM
The INCOME GENERATING PROGRAM aims to provide needy families with a small business (e.g. fish farms or animal rearing). The goal of the program is to make them self-sustaining and to provide some financial stability.
· Visiting and evaluation of the potential beneficiaries’ real needs.
· Loans made at 0% interest.
· Purchase of any material will be done with our supervision.
· Basic training to the beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries shall repay the loan according to their abilities in the shortest time possible. The amount will be then used to provide other families with the same kind of help.
7) STRATEGIES AND APPROACHES
CHILDREN’S EDUCATIONAL SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM
Regular home and school visitation.
Parent’s meetings.
Regular monthly children’s meetings.
Individual, family, and group counselling.
8) LOCAL PARTNERS
SAIRUNG FOUNDATION will be in charge of the entire project. The N.G.O. is organising a working network with volunteers, local government schools and local government hospitals.
9) OBJECTIVES
To assist poor children who exist at the fringe of society to enjoy a better quality of life through education, proper nutrition, and the development of values and moral character.
To improve the quality of life of those poor children’s families, and make them self-sustaining, through the help of the Income Generating Program.
To promote a health campaign against drugs and AIDS, so that the children grow up with a good quality of life and become good citizens of their country.
To assist families affected with HIV/AIDS to get proper medical treatment and other necessary assistance as needed.
To provide SPECIAL MEDICAL CARE for any sick child who needs urgent and special medical assistance and/or surgical intervention.
